Lio in a box. That’s unlikely to happen, except maybe in that collector box-set relating the artist’s glamorous career from the early and carefree Premier Album, to the rebellious later effort, Wandata. Moving through the different stages in Lio’s personality, this anthology starts with her electro-pop debut effort Premier Album, an indispensable tablespoon of cherry-pop sugar to give you an appetite. Then, comes her 1982 sophomore project Suite Sixtine with collaboration of legendary californian duo Sparks ( composed of Ron and Russel Mael ); soon followed by the softer aspect of Amours Toujours in 1983. With its delicate melodies and gentle vocals, this new album is falling within the scoop of a more traditional french song background, helped in this enterprise by mastermind Alain Chamfort. In 1986, it’s the delightful and sexy cover for Pop Model, a glorious hymn to Lio’s cheeky “popersonality”. Cancan’s musical concept is to be a tribute to the typically french state of mind symbolized by Moulin Rouge’s famous French-cancan style: an original, cheerful and politically incorrect extravaganza !
