Only one year after her hugely successful debut, Lio, the emerging sexy pop icon – who, at that time, was still divided between schoolrooms and studio sessions – went on to record her sophomore project: “Suite Sixtine”. This second release features english versions of her past songs plus various new singles. At first sight, the idea of adapting her songs in english appears like an easy and cheap move rooted in the music-business ways of the sixties: french succes, adaptation, exportation. Obviously, it’s not. Lio’s only reason for doing this, is the collaboration of californian producers Ron and Russell Mael also known as the Sparks. At the opposite of a simple commercial strategy, Suite Sixtine is a genuine challenge for her: to retain her strong personality while immersing into an universe as particular as the one of the Mael’s brothers was clearly not an easy thing. The bet is easily won. Lio pooved here that she had more composure - nerve maybe - than expected ; the frenetic synths on “Marie Antoinette” and ”Housewive of the Year”, or the hypnotic hook of “I’ll Expose You” are perfect illustrations of that unique meeting.
