Joined on the recording of Pop Model by legendary Tom Tom Club member Steven Stanley, the new team backing Lio seems already impressive. Indeed, more than being part of one of the most influencing dance act ever, Steven is also a fantastically talented sound engineer who collaborated with Grace Jones, Bob Marley, remixed B52’s, Talking Heads and, incidentally, co-produced the classic, numerously sampled, Wordy Rappinghood. Recorded between the “City of Angels” Los Angeles and Gilberto Gil own studio in Rio de Janeiro, this episode is mainly characterized by the communicative euphoria among the musicians and the special connection between Lio and “new”comer teammate, John Cale. Colored by wonderful lyrics for “Pop Song”, “Veste Du Soir”, driven by hit singles “Les Brunes Comptent Pas Pour Des Prunes”, “Fallait Pas Commencer”, and boosted by Hollywood-budget videos for “Barbie” (inspired by Ciao Manhattan, the cult movie from J. Palmer and D. Wiesman) then again with “Fallait pas Commencer”, Pop Model establishes itself as a solid album, critically acclaimed by Rock & Folk which catapults Lio to the status of cover girl… Not bad for the too soon >> more... |
