Pop Model needed a worthy successor. It will happen with collaborations of eternal accomplice Jacques Duvall, the late Guillaume Israel (who signed two wonderful tracks: C’est ça ma vie and Malaise sur la Falaise), Vincent Palmer on the efficient rock song Allergique and Yann Leker who’s mainly in charge of the musicians. At the beginning, the concept behind this album was to be a tribute to the typically french state of mind symbolized by the famous french-cancan style. Born in the late nineteenth century at the notorious Moulin Rouge parisian cabaret, the french-cancan is an exclusively feminin ritualized and provocative dance combined with perfect harmonies from musical master-mind Offenbach. This revolutionary, original, cheerful, typically french and politically incorrect state of mind seemed to be the perfect following and the natural evolution of Lio’s image initiated with Pop Model. Obviously, Cancan featured a switch from the energetic previous singles, to the softer “ballades” of this Cancan Lp (like the single Seul Les Filles Pleurent). Nevertheless, with the creation of a whole new universe, Lio clearly remains a compelling personality catched in a marvellous and imaginative visual context; confirmed here by the album artwork done by legendary artist Hugo Pratt. |
