THE ETERNITY OF THE FIRST KISS

That was the way, Lizzy, for the first reissue of her debut album in 2003, and one year before she died, talked about « Press Color ». « American dreams seen through a cubist lense... Sparse lyrics, heavy french accent, broken down guitar riffs, autodidact tension with an attitude of insouciance, lightness of the day, derision, soultrainmachine. Let’s gamble and gamble!! How true ! In 2015, thirty six year after it’s first release « Press Color » was reissued again, with a special mention to the double Blue Vinyl Collector LP, in partnership with Light in the Attic. The reviews were amazing. Pickfork Magazine wrote an 11 page cover story on Lizzy and honored the album by naming it "Best Reissue of the month". Why is the album timeless ? Nothing can be more true than Lizzy’s own quote : “It was just as simple as being 20, angry and living frantically in wild and crazy New York City”. February 1979, an album recorded in 10 days, out of the blue, like a blind bet on a drunken night... practically recorded live, late at night at Bob Blank's recording studio (Kingdom of the No Wave / Mutant Disco Music).
1979 was also the era of the « Paradise Garage » and « The Loft » when Disco was still underground. And the crazed cover of Arthur Brown’s « Fire », remixed by disco Pope Savarese, was a vibrant sign of this strange cross-over Disco < Inferno / No Wave-Funk that was happening in the city.
« Hard-boiled Babe »... discribed by Lizzy « as a zombiest polaroid of Life in the Hollywood years of Dashiell Hammett and Lillian Hellman » was not released on the original album in 79, but as a bonus track on the 2003 reissue.
This compilation with its twelve contemporary remixes and edits from Press Color, shows us how Lizzy’s work, almost 40 years later, stays topical and relevant today. The following words of Edgard Varese's seem made for Lizzy: « Contrary to general belief, an artist is never ahead of his time but most people are far behind theirs. »
